Policy Director

Orgalim – Europe’s Technology Industries – is looking for a Policy Director to join our team of over 30 people, with 14 nationalities, representing the interests of Europe’s technology industries towards the EU institutions. The Policy Director will lead our work on EU policies ranging from climate, energy, environment, innovation, investment and economic policy issues.  This is an opportunity to work in one of the leading industry associations in Europe, representing Europe’s largest industrial branch, on issues that are at the top of the EU political agenda and key both to Europe’s industrial base and to addressing the most urgent challenges facing our continent.

Job brief and responsibilities

The Policy Director will set the overall strategy and execution of Orgalim’s policy team, working in tandem with the Policy Director responsible for Digitalisation, Internal Market, Trade and Legal. He/she will specifically focus on Orgalim’s work on the climate, energy, environment, innovation, investment and economic policy issues, while ensuring a maximum use of the synergies across Orgalim’s entire policy portfolio. The responsibilities include:

  • As a member of the Orgalim Executive Committee, supporting the Director General in the overall management of the association
  • Managing a team of 5 colleagues
  • Shaping, advising and proactively driving Orgalim’s advocacy efforts at EU level
  • Driving the work in Orgalim’s relevant working groups and task forces, engaging directly with our members to build relationships, identify needs and deliver value
  • Developing and maintaining strong networks with all relevant stakeholders
  • Promoting, inspiring and driving the teamwork and synergies with the rest of the members of the policy team

Your profile 

  • 10 years’ work experience or more
  • Excellent knowledge of the European Union and its institutions, processes and policies. 
  • Deep understanding of EU policies relating to the climate, energy, environmental and innovation agenda
  • Academic or professional background in economics or related field, with additional academic experience (political science, legal, engineering, business…) a plus
  • A recognised leader, with proven competence managing an international team 
  • A networker, at ease operating at the highest levels in the private and public sector and developing strong partnerships and relationships both inside and outside the organization 
  • Effective collaborator and experience working in a matrix environment (i.e. ability to influence without formal authority).
  • Excellent written and oral communicator
  • Mother-tongue equivalent knowledge of English; knowledge of other European languages is a plus

Adviser – Internal Market

 

Job brief and responsibilities

The Adviser’s role will consist of shaping and driving Orgalim’s agenda on Internal Market policies, “closing the gap” between physical and digital elements of the Internal Market. The responsibilities range from the New Legislative Framework and mechanical/electrical regulations to standardisation policy, market surveillance and better regulation. He/she will report to the Policy Director responsible, working closely with the wider policy team to leverage synergies across Orgalim’s entire policy portfolio. The responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating, advising and proactively implementing Orgalim’s advocacy efforts on the policy issues at EU level
  • Managing the work in Orgalim’s relevant working groups and task forces, engaging directly with our members to build relationships, identify needs and deliver value;
  • Building a strong network within the EU institutions and among relevant stakeholders;
  • Representing Orgalim in policy discussions with decision makers and at external events;
  • Supporting the Policy Director responsible with the broader management of the Orgalim policy team

Your profile

  • 4-6 years of relevant experience in the European institutions, industry, associations or consultancies
  • A university degree in law, political science, engineering, or a related field
  • Strong knowledge of the European Union and its institutions, processes and policies
  • Experience working on policy issues impacting Europe’s Technology Industries a strong plus
  • Customer/member-oriented
  • An excellent communicator, both written and oral
  • A self-starter with proactive mindset, strong attention to detail and a “can-do” attitude
  • Very high proficiency in English; good knowledge of other European languages is a plus
  • An effective team player with ability to work within flexible and multidisciplinary structures
